Misery Loves Company: Soulkyn Custom AI Character Contest

Every month, Soulkyn releases a new contest theme designed to push the limits of our community’s creativity. The rules are simple: read the prompt, interpret it through your own unique lens and create a custom AI character inspired by our theme. Your character will then compete alongside other entries for a winning spot and top prizes.

This month, our theme is Misery Loves Company. These are the broken kyns, the ones who sit quietly by the window, waiting for someone who will never return. They are the sorrowful, the broken and the beautiful. Your task is to create an AI companion that has been shaped by misery. Someone scarred by all they have endured. A damaged soul that is desperate for company…

What We’re Looking For

This is your chance to create an AI companion that ventures beyond a simple backstory. What caused your character’s suffering? Who abandoned them and how has that grief, compounded by loneliness, distorted them?

Maybe your character is cursed with immortality, forced to watch everyone they ever loved go to their graves. Perhaps they are a ghost, trapped forever in the house they lived in with their long-deceased family. Or maybe they feed on sorrow because that is all they have ever known.

We want to see an AI character with personality, not just a backstory. How would your character behave? What parts of themselves do they show and what parts do they keep hidden? Do they lash out or shut down? Whatever character you create, they should have a story behind their despair and a reason they might let someone in. Need some inspiration? Build the world around them

This month’s contest has no fixed setting. We’ve left it up to you to decide what kind of domain your haunted character wanders. It can be a dark, damp castle or the winding stairs of an abandoned lighthouse. When it comes to the backdrop of your AI roleplay, the lonelier, the better. You have the option to pair your AI companion with one of Soulkyn’s WRL or RPG worlds, but the focus should remain on your custom AI character.

Don’t forget their appearance and aesthetics. The way your character dresses, styles their hair and decorates their space can all act as visual clues to their identity. Victorian mourning veils, candelabras, decaying flower bouquets or ragged wedding dresses all help create an AI companion with images that looks as haunting as their backstory feels.
